Autumn Greetings - Use the print and cut feature on your Silhouette Cameo

Welcome to todays card post! I'm a bit slack getting this one up as i'm a bit rusty on this whole blogging side of things but better late than never!

We don't really celebrate the Autumn, or to America the 'Fall' season, here in Australia but I must say - the colours and tones that those beautiful leaves produce, falling outdoors into the wind brings much inspiration.

For todays design, I brush over the process of how the Silhouette Connect Plug in, installed into your Adobe Illustrator software, does not only create a very streamlined process but can allow you to use the Print and Cut feature - in this case i'm cutting all the Autumn/Fall leaves on the card (design courtesy freepik.com).

I created this layup in Illustrator using the vector EPS file downloaded from freepik.com.
I proceeded to create the pink cut line by off setting the vector path of each leaf shape - the fine pink stroke that you can see.

This is the Silhouette plug in, showing me how the cut lines will sent to my Cameo. An important part in making sure the right paper setting are chosen. Thats for another day! :)

I printed 1 set of the leaves each onto different coloured cardstock on my Brother toner printer.
Because i'm foiling the leaves, I need to print them with black toner which is compatible with the Heidi Swapp foil that I use. The registration marks were provided by the plug in within Illustrator. By printing registration marks, the Cameo will know where it has to cut around the images.

Not everything can be done in the plug in in the same way like it can in (if you are familiar) with the Silhouette Studio Designer or Business Edition, it just depends what you create yourself in Illustrator and how you want to cut it. There are some useful tools in Silhouette Studio that are actually much more efficient than doing in Illustrator and vise versa.

The sentiments were created and foiled in the same way, check out the video for a bit more details on this process.

The Heidi Swapp orange foil is amazing!

As always, it took took time for me to assemble the card but gotta be happy with the final outcome!

Jewels and Birds

To celebrate this seasons beautiful jewel tones, classy neutrals and my genuine love of vintage styling - out comes the mood board.
A special mention to the print 'Wine Throated Hummingbird' which can be found at etsy.com. I think the use of colour is beautiful.
What do you think?

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

Well, thanks to todays main google page I have happily discovered the history making works of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
Today is the celebration of what would have been his 126th Birthday. In his time the man was an architect of great knowledge and creativity. His designs were well ahead of their time and presented a strong grounding to modernist design.
Shown below is the 'Farnsworth House'.

Built in 1951 in Illinois, the home is preserved in all its glory under The National Trust and Landmarks, Illinois. The website describes the home as follows:

“Every physical element has been distilled to its irreducible essence. The interior is unprecedentedly transparent to the surrounding site, and also unprecedentedly uncluttered in itself. All of the paraphernalia of traditional living –rooms, walls, doors, interior trim, loose furniture, pictures on walls, even personal possessions – have been virtually abolished in a puritanical vision of simplified, transcendental existence. Mies had finally achieved a goal towards which he had been feeling his way for three decades."

And yes, he is the creator of the incredibly popular 'Barcelona' chair:

All that glitters is gold......

In recent seasons we've seen the resurgance of high, sparkly platforms and stilettos. Solid glitters, multi colours, anything you can think of! Flipping through the latest edition of 'Shop Till You Drop' presented me with a beautiful, new design by Alannah Hill. Labelled in the traditional Alannah Hill way, 'Play House Antics' is a true stunner stiletto. If you're about to run out and pick up a pair, mind grabbing me one too?

Beyond Fashionable Creativity

On the weekend my mother in law handed me a liftout from the Herald Sun featuring images inside the home of a Melbourne based architect and his wife - Megan Hess.

Until I read through the article I did not realise that some of the beautiful artworks (bar the stunning array of Audrey Hepburn images that hung on the walls as well) were Megan's personal works.

Her simplistic use and placement of colour (or sometimes no colour at all) in her digital designs compliment the bold, loose lines of the sketches.

I will forever agree with the term 'K.I.S.S.' Keep it simple, stupid!

Talk about clientele!

Florence Broadhurst.
What can I say other than that she is a huge inspiration by way of her legacy and what she has left us, not to mention it was almost lost forever had someone not stumbled across some old screens hiding in the back of a large shed collecting dust.

Every time I cast my eye over her infamous designs, I am constantly in awe of how she and her designers used and interpreted colour into each and every piece.

If anything, go and buy the book. It is well worth a look and something to gain much inspiration from!

If my posts look at all messy, please bear with me as I get used to the whole 'blogging' way of things. :)

Spring Racing season is on! I am not an avid race goer, i've actually never been to one! But the fashion and styling is definitley something to WOW at. The colour choices this year are bold, fun and out of the ordinary.

Check out these new season stunners by Mollini! The blue is to die for.....
